About Me
Melanie is our lead nurse at Next Practice Newstead, she is a registered nurse who has centred her skills in General practice nursing since 2021, she prides herself in providing a patient centred approach from antenatal care through to chronic illness management and minor surgical procedures. Finishing her Bachelor of Nursing degree at Southern Cross University in 2020 with a new graduate program. Prior to this she worked as an assistant nurse in high care dementia nursing gaining experience in end-of-life care.
She completed her graduate nursing program at Alstonville medical centre where she developed skills in emergency care in the community and grew a particular interest in wound management, both chronic and acute with skills in suturing and finding those tricky veins for an iron infusion. She also has a vast understanding on immunisation of both adult and childhood vaccines including assisting parents understanding childhood vaccination programs.
If she’s not working towards her masters, you will find Melanie painting, playing video games, attending a Brisbane Lions game or out in her garden. She also is an ex-roller figure skater winning six national championships and understands those with a passion and drive. Whether it’s an IUD insertion, an infected wound or a newborn check, nurse Melanie strives to educate and promote each individual’s health needs.
