Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) Healthcare Services at Next Practice Newstead

Supporting Veterans and Their Families

Next Practice Newstead is proud to provide healthcare services for eligible Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) patients. Our experienced GPs offer comprehensive, patient-centred care for veterans, serving personnel, and eligible family members from our clinic on Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley.

We recognise the important contribution veterans have made in service to Australia and are committed to providing accessible, respectful, and evidence-based healthcare tailored to individual needs.

We welcome DVA patients from Newstead, Teneriffe, New Farm, Fortitude Valley, Bowen Hills, Spring Hill, Brisbane CBD, and surrounding communities.

DVA-covered services are billed directly to DVA under the DVA fee schedule. This is separate from our standard private billing for general patients, so eligible DVA patients are not charged the same way.

Healthcare Services for DVA Patients

Our GPs provide a broad range of medical services for eligible DVA card holders, including:

  • General medical consultations
  • Chronic disease management
  • Preventive health assessments
  • Mental health care
  • Medication reviews
  • Women's health services
  • Men's health services
  • Travel health advice
  • Immunisations
  • Referrals to specialists and allied health providers
  • Care coordination and ongoing health management

Our doctors work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to support continuity of care.

Veteran Health and Wellbeing

Veterans may experience unique health challenges throughout different stages of life. At Next Practice Newstead, our GPs take a holistic approach to health, considering physical, mental, and social wellbeing when developing management plans.

We encourage regular health reviews and preventive care to support long-term health outcomes and quality of life.

Chronic Disease Management

For veterans living with ongoing health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory conditions, arthritis, or other chronic illnesses, our team can assist with coordinated management and monitoring. See our dedicated Chronic Disease Management page for more detail on our approach.

Mental Health Support

Mental health is an important part of overall wellbeing. Our doctors provide confidential consultations for a range of mental health concerns and can assist with assessment, treatment planning, and referrals where appropriate.

Veterans may be able to access mental health treatment through DVA's Non-Liability Health Care provisions based on service history alone, regardless of card status or whether a claim has been accepted. Speak with our team to understand what's available to you. See our dedicated Mental Health page for more on our broader mental health services.

Referrals and Care Coordination

Where additional care is required, our GPs can coordinate referrals to specialists, allied health professionals, diagnostic services, and community support programs. Our team works closely with patients to ensure their healthcare journey is as seamless as possible.

New DVA Patients Welcome

Whether you are new to the area, looking for a regular GP, or seeking ongoing healthcare support, Next Practice Newstead welcomes eligible DVA patients, including Gold, White, and Orange Card holders.

Please advise our team when booking your appointment if you hold a DVA card and bring it with you to your consultation.
