We understand that men are statistically less likely to seek medical attention, and that this reluctance can have serious consequences for long-term health. At Next Practice Newstead, we are committed to changing that. Our GPs provide a straightforward, non-judgmental environment where men can speak openly about their health, access the care they need, and take a genuinely proactive approach to their wellbeing - on their terms, without pressure.
For men's health consultations, we recommend booking with Dr Wayne Lee or Dr Tristan Nguyen, both of whom have a special interest in men's health and are experienced in addressing the full breadth of health concerns that affect men across every stage of life.
Dr Wayne Lee is the Clinical Director of Next Practice Newstead and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). Dr Lee completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland, having received the University Medal for Outstanding Research in Biochemistry, followed by a Master of Biotechnology with Distinction at the Australian National University. He has worked across metropolitan, rural, and remote Australia, gaining broad experience in general practice, preventive health, mental health, chronic disease management, and corporate health. Dr Lee is known for his holistic, collaborative approach to care, supporting men to build structured, long-term health programs personalised to their individual goals - integrating preventive care, health assessments, chronic disease management, and lifestyle interventions into a plan that genuinely works for them. He consults in English, Mandarin, Tagalog, and Hokkien.
Dr Tristan Nguyen brings a genuine interest in men's health and a warm, approachable consulting style that makes patients feel comfortable discussing concerns they may have found difficult to raise elsewhere. Dr Nguyen is experienced across the full range of men's health presentations and takes a proactive, evidence-based approach to supporting men in managing and improving their long-term health.
Our GPs provide comprehensive men's health care across a wide range of areas.
Mental health assessment, management, and referral is available for men experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, or other mental health concerns. Men's mental health remains significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated in Australia, and our GPs take a thorough, sensitive, and genuinely supportive approach to helping men in this space. A GP Mental Health Care Plan can be developed at our clinic, providing access to Medicare rebates for up to ten sessions with a psychologist per calendar year.
Reproductive and sexual health services cover erectile dysfunction, low libido, fertility concerns, STI screening and treatment, and other aspects of male sexual and reproductive health — all discussed with discretion, clinical expertise, and no judgment whatsoever.
Prostate health and screening includes prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing, ongoing prostate health monitoring, and timely referrals to urologists where indicated. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, and early assessment is something our GPs actively encourage. Our doctors will discuss the benefits and limitations of PSA testing with you, assess your individual risk factors, and guide you toward the most appropriate pathway for your circumstances.
Testosterone and hormonal health assessment and management covers low testosterone and related hormonal concerns affecting energy, mood, libido, and overall wellbeing — an area that is increasingly recognised as central to men's quality of life but often goes unaddressed.
Cardiovascular health services include assessment and management of cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and lifestyle risk factors that disproportionately affect men. Our GPs take a proactive approach to cardiovascular health, working with you to reduce your risk before problems arise.
Skin checks and full body mole checks are strongly encouraged for men, who are at higher risk of skin cancer and less likely to present for early detection. Our GPs provide thorough skin examinations and arrange prompt further assessment or referral where needed.
Preventive health assessments are structured health checks designed to identify risk factors early and support long-term health and longevity. Every GP at Next Practice Newstead shares a deep commitment to preventive care, and men's preventive health is an area we are particularly passionate about.
Chronic disease management provides ongoing GP care for men living with long-term conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory conditions, with personalised care plans tailored to your individual health needs and goals.
Lifestyle and wellbeing guidance covers nutrition, physical activity, alcohol consumption, sleep, and other lifestyle factors that are central to men's health — delivered with practical, evidence-based advice and a realistic understanding of how men live their lives.
Mental health is one of the most pressing and underaddressed areas of men's health in Australia. At Next Practice Newstead, our GPs are experienced in creating a space where men feel genuinely comfortable talking about how they are truly feeling - without judgment, without pressure, and without being made to feel that asking for support is anything other than the right thing to do. Whether you are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, or simply feel that something is not quite right, our team is here to listen and to help.
New and existing patients are always welcome. To book a men's health consultation with Dr Wayne Lee or Dr Tristan Nguyen, or to speak with one of our Patient Advocates about the services available to you, book online or contact Next Practice Newstead today.
