At Next Practice Newstead, we provide comprehensive, confidential sexual health services for all people, regardless of age, gender, sexuality, or background, delivered by experienced GPs, including Dr Wayne Lee, whose clinical interests include LGBTQIA+ health, from our Wickham Street clinic in Fortitude Valley. We welcome patients from Newstead, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane CBD, New Farm, Teneriffe, Bowen Hills, Spring Hill, Hamilton, Albion, Herston, Newmarket, South Brisbane, the Gabba, and the broader Brisbane inner-city community, with free on-site parking available.

Sexual Health Services at Next Practice Newstead

• STI screening and testing: confidential assessment and testing for a full range of sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, herpes, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. We recommend discussing appropriate screening frequency with your GP.
• STI treatment and management: clinical assessment, treatment, and ongoing management, with clear, supportive guidance. Where partner notification or specialist review is required, our GPs support you through that process with sensitivity.
• HIV prevention, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP): available for individuals at higher risk of HIV. PrEP is a highly effective preventive medication that significantly reduces the risk of acquiring HIV, and is PBS-subsidised for eligible patients. Our GPs are experienced in prescribing and monitoring PrEP, including baseline and ongoing blood tests. Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) assessment and referral is also available for recent potential exposure.
• Contraception counselling and management: personalised advice across the full range of contraceptive options. See our dedicated Women's Health page for more on contraception in the context of broader women's health care.
• Reproductive and sexual health concerns: assessment and management of vaginal health concerns, penile health concerns, pelvic pain, and other presentations, handled with clinical thoroughness and discretion.
• Hepatitis B and hepatitis C assessment and management: testing, vaccination where appropriate, and referral for specialist management.

Regular Sexual Health Screening: Who Should Consider It?

Regular sexual health screening is recommended for all sexually active individuals, and is particularly important for:

• Those with new or multiple sexual partners
• Individuals who do not consistently use barrier contraception
• Men who have sex with men
• People living with HIV or whose partners are living with HIV
• Individuals notified of a potential STI exposure
• People who use injectable drugs
• Anyone unsure of their status who hasn't had a recent screen

Consultations are handled with the highest standard of clinical discretion and in accordance with Australian privacy legislation and medical confidentiality standards. Some conditions are subject to legally required public health reporting; your GP can explain how this applies to your circumstances if relevant.
