Why Regular Skin Checks Are Essential in Queensland

Queensland has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with years of sun exposure accumulating silently over time. Skin cancer, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma, is highly treatable when detected early. Regular skin checks with an experienced GP give you the best possible chance of catching any concerns at the earliest, most manageable stage.

We recommend that all Queensland residents, particularly those with fair skin, a history of significant sun exposure, or a personal or family history of skin cancer, attend regular skin checks as part of their preventative health routine.

When to Book a Skin Check

We encourage you to book a skin check appointment if you:

  • Have not had a skin check in the past twelve months
  • Have noticed a new or changing mole, spot, or lesion on your skin
  • Have a personal or family history of skin cancer or melanoma
  • Have a history of significant sun exposure or sunburn
  • Have fair skin, light eyes, or red or blonde hair, which are associated with higher skin cancer risk
  • Are concerned about any aspect of your skin health
